What do you think has changed in the Rhythm and Blues music era?

November 11th, 2009 admin No comments

What do you consider rhythm and blues? is it the music from the late 40s and 50s like Etta James and Louis Armstrong, or do you consider people like Nelly and Ashanti rhythm and blue?

comments? opinions?

i am truly just curious, its not homework

To me R^&B will always mean the sounds of sixties soul like Motown and Stax. It’s hard to argue against Aretha, JB, the Temps, the Tops, the mg’s, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and on and on.

I think that a lot of the singers from that era grew up singing in Church, not so much any more. Then, too, you didn’t have the opportunity for massive exposure to amateurs that shows like American Idol bring.

Better backing musicians then, too.

Cash McCall – Original Trailer 1959

November 11th, 2009 admin No comments

In this routine business-story-cum-romantic-comedy, James Garner is Cash McCall, a wheeling and dealing tycoon, and Natalie Wood is Lory Austen, the daughter of failing businessman Grant (Dean Jagger). McCall’s expertise lies in acquiring businesses about to go belly up, attaching them to successful enterprises and then taking a large tax deduction on the resultant equation. Those deals are enhanced when the once-failing business is then sold at a profit. This is a savvy gambit for late ’50s movie fare, but its proponent begins to have second thoughts when he comes up against the attractive Lory — who is not afraid of baring all for a good cause. The well-known co-stars and others like Nina Foch and E.G. Marshall do their best with a limited script.

James Garner – Cash McCall
Natalie Wood – Lory Austen
Nina Foch – Maude Kennard
Dean Jagger – Grant Austen
E.G. Marshall – Winston Conway
Henry Jones – Gil Clark
Otto Kruger – Will Atherson
Roland Winters – Gen. Denvers
Edward Platt – Harrison Glenn
Edgar Stehli – Mr. Pierce
Linda Watkins – Miriam Austen
Parley Baer – Harvey Bannon
Robert Clarke
Walter Coy
Dabbs Greer
Olan Soule

Where can I find free sheet music for two particular songs?

November 8th, 2009 admin 5 comments

Piano sheet music for The Impossible Dream from Man From La Mancha and Growltiiger’s Last Stand from Cats? And possibly Maybe This Time from Cabaret?

I’ve looked everywhere, and most free sheet music sites are just indexes so please don’t suggest one of those.

Best answer gets 10 points, so please be helpful.

Have you tried your local library?

How can i exploit my ideas of nightclub events to make money?

November 8th, 2009 admin 3 comments

I could fill a book (a small one but still a book) on ideas for events nightclubs could hold. I used to be an extremely frequent nightclub goer and some of the events they held seemed utterly awfully thought out and made the night worse. I feel like i could bring some very good ideas to the table. What can i do to exploit this?

First and most importantly set up a brand, and make some set ups. something to show clients so they can get an idea of your events and your style.
Second, advertise. you may just end up doing small pub events to start off with. thats because big clubs wont invest that much money on a new event planner, when you have some good events in your books (even if they are small) then you have a shot at the big club money makers.

How do I become a night club promoter?

November 8th, 2009 admin 1 comment

I am seriously intersted in promoting a night club, how can I get the club space for free, how can I make alot of money, and what is good money that club promoters make?

Get a team together. Get a couple of good unknown DJs who are willing to play for free just for the exposure. Get a couple of good unknown bands who will play for free just for the exposure. Maybe get a sponsor (not totally necessary)-maybe a liquor company to sponsor a night with free samples, drinks and promotions. Then get a group of hot chicks as "friends" who wouldn’t mind hanging out in a club with good music and good drinks for free.

Once you have something to offer a club owner then ask to speak with the club owner. Tell them you can get -blank- number of people in the door on a given night to spend a bunch of many at their bar. They may also make money by charging at the door. You get people in the door, the DJ should get people in the door, cheap or free drinks will bring in the ladies and wherever there’s women, men will follow.

Find out what the club makes on a given night. Guarantee they will make their usual money plus a percentage of the door and all of the bar. Then you’ll take a percentage of anything over that. For example, once the club makes $1000 off the door then you’ll make 50% of the door after that. This is overly simplified. There are many ways to work out a deal, but hopefully you get the idea.

You will take all the risk. You have to make sure everyone you work with is happy. You are the last one to get paid.

How to transfer my iTunes music from old computer to new one?

November 8th, 2009 admin 7 comments

I just got a new computer. My old itunes had all my parents music on it, so I don’t want to just copy and paste it all. I want to transfer my music downloaded from iTunes, and any music that is on my iPod to my NEW computer. How do I do this without deleting all my music off my iPod? I would rather not have to download or buy any extra programs too, if that is possible. Thanks.

Download this thing called iPodRip. It worked for me.

go to this website and follow the directions: http://ipodrip.com/

Why do musicians prefer for the 5th chord in the minor scale to be major?

November 8th, 2009 admin 2 comments

Why do musicians write songs where the 5th chord (or V chord) is major rather than minor? Why not Am, Dm, Em? Why Am, Dm, E7? Is there some "better flavor" to using E7 instead of Em? And why isn’t the G# for that chord included in the key signature? It would be better if the sharp was included in the key signature instead of having to write it every time it is used. Why not?

This is because the V chord in major has the leading tone: say we’re in C Major, a V chord would have G B D. The B, the third, is the leading tone to C. The B is only a half step from C and wants to move to C. In a minor key, the leading tone isn’t there. Say we are in C natural minor. That would mean that it is Bb instead of B. This Bb is a whole step from C and doesn’t want to resolve quite as much. When you raise that Bb to a B natural, it sounds like it wants to go up, giving a song a sense of direction.
As for why is the G# in A minor not written in the key signature, there are a few reasons. The best is that It is common practice that the sharps and flats in a key signature will follow the same order. If you see three flats in a key signature, you will know what they will be, Bb, Eb, and Ab. If there is one sharp you know that it will be F#. There are also some music theory reasons: A musician (one that has been well trained in Tonal Harmony and Tonal Theory) will see that G# and can see how it fits into the music. In a group, they would be able to know how it fits in with a chord and to tune it properly. This is because in a chord, you have to tune a note differently than in a scale or a melody. The third of a chord will be a little lower than it would be if you were playing it in a scale.

Finally, if you are writing a song, do what sounds good. Music Theory was only invented after composers had been writing what they thought sounded good for many centuries. If you think a song will sound better without the raised third in a V chord, then try it out. If it sounds good to you, use it. If it doesn’t, maybe try something else.

Rock On, music lovers, Rock on.
