What is the main difference (if there is any) between Music PR and Music Management?

November 8th, 2009 admin 1 comment

I want to go into Public Relations, specifically in the music industry. But there is this great program that offers a BA (hons) in music and entertainment management. Is this basically the same thing? Will I be able to work for a music PR company if I get this degree?

Thanks : )

Any suggestions on music cds that help to concentrate on study or enhance the memory while studying?

November 8th, 2009 admin 1 comment

Hi, I’m looking for any audio cds that help to stimulate the brain for studying or for memory enhancement. Not sure if these cds work, but heard lot of good comments on these cds:

1) Accelerating learning by Steven Halpern
2) Music for Concentration

Any more suggestions? I’m also open to all opinions besides the music cds.

Thanks in advance.

Enhancing memory for a student:

1) Get good sleep
2) Take vitamin B complex – it helps you focus
3) Pace while you read – you’ll notice your retention and speed goes up dramatically (psychology trick I’ve learned – works with autistics – works with non-autistics very well)
4) read out loud or say the words while you read – you’ll notice your retention goes WAY up doing that, as well as your speed
5) Apply what you learn to what you know – tell people what you learn – write about it in an email – what you’re learning is interesting if it’s applied to something interesting – my field is VERY interesting to most people – I work with convicted rapists/pedophiles and am working on designing a new rehabilitation for them – I’ve also noticed a trend towards ADD in America due to the fact that people who come here generally cut ties and dig up their roots and have an adventurous spirit – people find that stuff interesting – you’ll notice by doing this your interaction with the topic increases which drastically increases retention – INTERACT with what you read – even if it’s just underlining as you read.

Music? I listen to stuff that has somewhat of an energetic beat that isn’t too artsy – that has the sound of energy – I have a huge collection on my laptop that I listen to while studying.

Some examples I have are:

Moby’s Look at Us We’re Beautiful
Peter Frampton’s – Do you feel like I do?
Air – All I need

Those are 3 of my picks (I have over 200) – but music helps me drone out things, but the beat keeps me energized….

What are some very good instrumental music artists and songs?

November 8th, 2009 admin 4 comments

i love instrumental music but dont know that many intrumental music artists and songs. I only know kenny G. give me some advice or list a bunch and why they are good. Thanks a lot on making my instrumental hunt easier.

Chet Atkins is one of the greatest guitarists of all time and usually did instrumental stuff. If you like Atkins, you may also like Jerry Reed and Buster B. Jones.

Also, he doesn’t usually play mainly instrumentals, but modern country guitarist Brad Paisley released an album back in November called PLAY. That album had 11 great instrumentals on it. And Paisley went placed most country guitarists wouldn’t dare to go–surf rock, blues, rock, etc. PLAY really shows just how versatile Paisley is as a guitarist. In fact, he seems to be a musical chameleon with how well he can play ANY genres with ease!

Danny Gatton was another great guitarist. He was able to play many genres well and I’ve often called Brad Paisley another version of Danny Gatton, when it comes to guitar.

There’s also a female bassist by the name of Tal Wilkenfeld whose stuff I believe is completely instrumental.

If you love jazz guitar, you’ll want to check out Wes Montgomery, Lenny Breau and Mike Stern.

For rock guitar masters, check out Eric Johnson, Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert.

If you want country guitar, check out Brad Paisley, Brent Mason, Albert Lee, Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed.

For acoustic guitar, check out Monte Montgomery.

Keep in mind, however, that not all the artists I’ve mentioned stick strictly to instrumental work. Also, Brent Mason is a session guitarist who has an album which is out-of-print, but also receyly released an album with his brother and drummer, Randy Mason.

Also, sorry for mentioning so many guitarists!

What is the live music scene like in Salem, Oregon and nearby cities?

November 8th, 2009 admin 1 comment

I sing and my boyfriend is a drummer. We plan to move out of CA partly because the music scene here seems to be going back to the disco days of DJ’s, with rap and hip-hop leading the way. Please tell me there is somewhere where people still love live music (and are offering more than tips!).

My friend is involved in the live music scene in Salem… check out his myspace (username jwrockstar).

Other than that, I would go watch live music at Coffee House Cafe, the Governor’s Cup, Dragonfly Cafe and Lefty’s when I was in college.

Portland or Eugene are probably a better bet for getting paying gigs… and only an hour away by car in either direction!

What’s the difference between classical and rock or jazz music?

November 8th, 2009 admin 2 comments

I mean in the use of musical theory (armony, improvisation, counterpoint, etc) is there a big difference between classical music and rock(good rock, like king crimson) or jazz?

Also i would like you to recommend me some classical composers and performers as well.

Thanks!

The most important difference between the so called classical music (Renaissance, Baroque, classical, romantic, modern, post modern) is that classical music has a style and originality, order, depth, meanings and richness of sound, structure and a journey – as oppose to the modern pop/ rock style that has 4.5 chords running through it in repetitions, with no meanings, no journey, no depth and no sophistication.
Am I a snob? You might think so but please try it out yourself properly and see for yourself.

As to the other request – I’ll be delighted to introduce loads of classical composers and pieces.
As a matter of fact my website was designed for my own piano students and good guys such as yourself whom interested to know more about classical music and never dared to ask.

What is the cheapest way to buy concert tickets online from an organization without those large ticket fees?

November 8th, 2009 admin 6 comments

I wanted to buy some concert tickets, but the ticket fees from livenation and ticketmaster are almost 50% on top of the ticket price. Is there a cheaper way to buy tickets without using a scalper or ebay?

nofeestickets.com or get Emails from live nation, because they often have events where they sell lawn seats without service fees.

classical music improving the speed and quality of my work?

November 8th, 2009 admin 1 comment

Although I enjoy classical music, when I am doing homework for school, there is a very great improvement in the work, and in the speed of it, when I listen to classical music.

Why may this be?

It calms you down and sets a reasonable pace for your work.
