    If …

    @glenneveaux
    If you knew Robert Johnson’s story, it makes perfect scene. As a child he could only play harmonica, then he left home for a year or so, and came back the best guitarist around. Also, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Bonham (oddly enough, John Paul Jones did not) all sold their soul as well. Do some research before blabbing your mouth.

    @glenneveaux I feel like I should be insulted by that.. But I really couldn’t understand you. How does it feel to know that no one really cares what you say, love?

    In Johnson’s day, …
    In Johnson’s day, one of the scariest things that could happen to a young black man in the South was to be caught on the road in the middle of the night. Signs that read “Nigger, don’t let the sun set on you” were a ubiquitous sight in the South and many black men (and women) were lynched by white men who caught them wandering the roads.

    That is where the emotion and earnestness of the lyrics and Johnson’s voice comes from. Not some silly legend.

    Haha, RJ sang about …
    Haha, RJ sang about it himself. The legend goes: RJ was a crappy guitar player, trying to copy Son House (another delta player) but everyone hated RJ’s music. Then he left for a month or two, and came back the greatest guitar player anyone has ever seen. He also sang about the devil. So people created a folk tale out of it. It’s not racist, “white fuckz” did n’t create the tale.

    I wouldn’t say the its the only way to play guitar, but the soul of the guitar is the blues.

    This story goes …
    This story goes back to 1760. Classical composer Vivaldi dreamed he went to heavan and saw a beautiful angel playing the harp. It was the most beautiful song he had ever heard. So he asked the angel to teach it to him. The angel said he would if he “Gave him obedience.”
    Vivaldi realized at that point it was the fallen angel Lucifer.

    @Nikalson – It’s …
    @Nikalson – It’s not retro, it was recorded in 1936.
    @HelloIzEveryone – As far as I’m concerned, the blues *is* the only way to play the guitar. Don’t worry about name brands. I don’t think Robert Johnson ever owned a Martin.

    I’ve read that it …
    I’ve read that it was actually Tommy Johnson that first told the story of ’selling his soul to the devil’ and Robert then took that story and made it famous. Also there’s belief that the picture in this video at 0:31 is actually a picture of Tommy, not Robert.

    The story goes on…At first he was just a normal guitar player who wanted to be famous then 1 day the “devil” came and asked him “want to be famous,if you do give me your soul..”Robert said yea and he lost his “soul” wich is why Robert died to be VERY young-only at about his late 20’s—-but,its just a story…
