What do you think has changed in the Rhythm and Blues music era?

What do you consider rhythm and blues? is it the music from the late 40s and 50s like Etta James and Louis Armstrong, or do you consider people like Nelly and Ashanti rhythm and blue?

comments? opinions?

i am truly just curious, its not homework

To me R^&B will always mean the sounds of sixties soul like Motown and Stax. It’s hard to argue against Aretha, JB, the Temps, the Tops, the mg’s, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and on and on.

I think that a lot of the singers from that era grew up singing in Church, not so much any more. Then, too, you didn’t have the opportunity for massive exposure to amateurs that shows like American Idol bring.

Better backing musicians then, too.
