What is the best music file management software out there?

March 25th, 2010 admin 1 comment

I have a huge music file library, but not all files are perfectly tagged. I am getting very frustrated with Itunes. Is there any other software that’s good for managing music files?

Music Match Jukebox, There’s a free version, but the $19 upgrade is worth it IMO

Which university in California for Music Management ?

March 17th, 2010 admin 2 comments

What university’s in California have a Music Management Program ? ( Preferably San Diego) I have been searching a bit, it’s been hard. And is that a good choice for University ? ( i’ve been playing music for a long time).

People in that field generally do not have a degree anything close to that. And right now, with the music industry imploding because of downloading, there are fewer and fewer jobs in music management every year. Until the people already in the business all retire, there will be little opportunity.

Best Programs/schools for music management and/or music business?

March 14th, 2010 admin 2 comments

I am looking to pursue a career in music. I would like to be some sort of tour/band manager or work in the music business in a recording studio or own a venue. As you can prob tell I am interested in music production and concerts. Any schools that offer good courses (but reasonably priced?) I know that getting your connections is the #1 priority but a education is ALWAYS helpful and allows something to fall back on! Thank for the advice :)

The school of hard knocks, the school of life… No formal education will replace those things. It is much more important that you have experience than you have a formal music business education and experience is how you get connections. Go manage a local band. Go get an internship at a studio or a music management company but don’t expect that a music business eduction will be anything to fall back on. If you want to have something to fall back on go to school for business or marketing and apply that to the music business.

Schools that offer music business programs that I know of – Berklee college of music in Boston. Steinhardt School at NYU , Drexel University’s music business program in Philadelphia. Those three are supposed to be good.

I see full sail advertise everywhere but know nothing about them except that they pay a ton of money in online advertising.

Hope that helps,

R

Is it easy to find a job with a major in music management?

March 10th, 2010 admin 1 comment

I’m thinking about what to major in college, and I would love to work around music. At the same time, there is a recession, and I don’t know if there will be that many jobs in 5 years that accept and use music management majors. Also, how good is the pay for people that work with music business? Should I get a double major, and also major in something else? Any suggestions will be gladly accepted, thank you.

You could be a teacher. My mother currently has a PhD in Music Theory / Composition (I’m not entirely sure which), and she’s having a hard time finding a job. She’s looking in nearly every place from Maine to California. HOWEVER, she does have trouble speaking English which may be a disadvantage that you don’t have.

Anyone know where I can find a music management program that can?

March 8th, 2010 admin 1 comment

automatically organize and group my mp3s into correct albums, and maybe finds the correct album art too, it will take me forever to do it manually. I just got my player back from repair and want to actually have it organized this time.

Try Media Monkey. It doesn’t do these things automatically but can do them easily.

I’m trying to find a music management application that automatically updates my library.?

March 6th, 2010 admin 1 comment

I need some software, like winamp or itunes, that i can use to manage my music. Problem is, most of them i seem to have to manually add songs after I download them. I need an application that automatically updates my library. Songbird used to cut it, but the new version seems to have dropped that feature, go figure.

Why not use iTunes, its free to download.

How hard is it to manually add songs to your library??? Just select all and select show in music playlist…how hard is that???

How do I find music management?

March 4th, 2010 admin 2 comments

Hey! Can anybody please tell me how and where I can find a music manager. I’ve been looking and came across a couple of wanabes but nothing real. Im not sure where to start. I’m a R&B singer and I need to find a real manager. Please Help!

These days it’s better to do everything yourself. Record your own songs and put up a myspace music page.
