Carmine Coppola is makes a cameo appearance as the piano player in the sequence where Clemenza goes to sleep on a mattress and you see newspaper headlines right after Michael Corleone kills Sollozzo and McClusky… does anyone know the name of this piece? Failing that, does anyone know of any other ragtime piano music like it? I really enjoyed it.
Its Loneliness by Carmine Cappola my friend!
I’m trying to learn how to play the piano. I guess the first step is to figure out how to read sheet music. I was wondering if there was any software that will let me learn notes from the computer keyboard. Then I was hoping to get some books to learn how to actually play the piano, music theory, and also reading sheet music. Thanks.

I should also mention that I don’t have direct access to a store (I have no car, college campus) and was hoping for recommended titles I can order off Amazon or BN.
You’re really best off taking a few piano lessons in person, if possible. All the theory in the world won’t help if you can’t associate the notes to the keys and to the tones. Once you can get a good visual map of what C or F# *looks* and *sounds* like on the piano, then you can start looking at how it translates to sheet music. Once you get to that point, there are a million self-teaching books and videos, and you can pick one that will work best with a style of learing you like.
I’m looking for a free piece of music for piano to play in a recital to last about 3 minutes. I’m not brilliant at piano, so I need a medium difficulty piece, preferably in 4/4. It can be any style or genre of music. I’ve looked on a few sites but can’t seem to find much. Has anyone got any ideas?

Here is a nice Piano Sheet Music Forum with currently about 300 piano songbooks and many many single sheet music.
Most of the members are from www.pianofiles.com.
Everyone can share and post his sheet music in the forum, and if you can’t find the sheet music for a certain song, people can help you in the "Sheet Music Request Section" to find it then.

I recently acquired a flute and only have piano sheet music. This may appear to be a stupid question but how do I transpose it for the flute. Move the notes up an octave? I can’t play many of the songs as written because of the low notes below middle C. Please help.
I guess transpose is not the correct word to use but I think you understand the question.
Yes, just take it up one octave, or even two if needed.
Note that you can usually transpose certain passages and leave the other ones as written if they’re in the right range. Use your ear and your good taste to tell you if you should take the whole thing up an octave or just selected phrases.
Now, if the piece only occasionally dips one or two tones below middle C, you might do the more difficult work of transposing it up a third or a fifth. If you intend to play along with another musician (say, a pianist) at any point, you won’t want to try that.
Occasionally I’ve found that when a piece goes down to B or Bb for only a note or two, instead of going down to that note I can substitute a low D in its place. Try it, and again, let your ear be your guide.
