One of the basic dances to country music is the two-step - it's quick-quick-slow-slow, and then repeat. It can be fast or slow in tempo depending on the music. The girl always starts on her right foot. Your right hand will be out, holding his left hand. Your left hand in on his right shoulder. You will either be going backwards or forwards at times. Hopefully, he's a good dancer and will show you the steps. Don't worry if you mess up. Even the most experienced dancers mess up a few times.

Also there are line dances where you repeat the steps over and over. There are many of those, but usually people will be glad to help you learn them. It takes time, patience and practice.

Besides two-step, other dances are the Waltz, Polka and East Coast Swing or West Coast Swing. Good luck!
References :
There's a whole set of dances for C&W that's equivalent to ballroom. Texas two-step, for instance, is similar to social foxtrot. Schottische, C&W waltz, etc. The popularity of these dances has been exploding of late, so there are probably lessons available near you.
References :
Just let him know that you dont know how, most people are happy to teach a newbe.
Telling someone how to dance to country music is not something that is very easy online, its an in person thing. So, some places give free lessons early in the evening before the band is there. Or on sunday nights, call some country clubs and find out if you want too.

The two step is the most common couples dance, then the waltz. Its so much fun
