How to compose a piece of jazz music for alto saxophone?(Serious answers only!)?

For band class we have to do 2 projects for part of our grade, and I already have one done. But the other one I want to do is compose a piece of jazz music.
But I want to know:
What sets jazz music apart for other music?
How to compose a peice of music?
Would you be able to give me an exaple of a name for a jazz tune?

Sorry I have so many questions but I hope you help me.

Research the twelve bar blues, this is a warm up exercise that big bands(stage bands, you know, the four trumpets, four trombones, 4sax, piano, string base and drums)use. Very easy to improvise to. Jazz bounces around a lot, using arpeggio jumps, minor 5ths and minor 7ths, and some chromatic runs as well. Use all the afore mentioned and you should come up with something that sounds pretty groovy. As for naming it….. Anything goes, mack the knife, old man mose, red rooster, moving to the country. All these are names of famous jazz songs. One of my friends, names songs after pets or friends. For example for the dog, Mishka Bop. lol, just do what you want.
